You can’t have a Halloween knitting collection without pumpkins! Knitted pumpkins are one of those projects you can bring out year after year, and they transition easily from early fall through Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Make one pumpkin as a small accent or knit several in different sizes, colors and textures to create a whole handmade pumpkin patch. Traditional orange is perfect for Halloween, but cream, rust, mustard, brown and muted green yarns create a softer fall look.

Halloween Colorwork Knitting Patterns
If you’re ready to go beyond basic knitting, Halloween is a great excuse to try stranded colorwork. Contrasting yarn colors can turn a simple knitted hat into a skull, pumpkin, spider, bat, ghost, or other Halloween design. These smaller projects are also a great way to practice colorwork before moving on to larger stranded knitting projects like sweaters.
When working stranded colorwork, keep the yarn carried across the back of your work loose. Floats that are pulled too tightly can cause the finished knitting to pucker and may make your hat smaller and less stretchy than intended. For longer stretches between color changes, catching the floats periodically can also help keep the inside of the project neat and manageable.

Tips for Knitting Halloween Projects
Halloween patterns are a great opportunity to experiment with colors and details you might not normally use. A few simple choices can make your finished project look much more polished.
