Needles: Size 7 Double Point
Also needed: Yarn needle, Poly fill, Twigs for the tops of the pumpkins
Gauge: not necessary for this project

For smaller pumpkins (measuring roughly 4 inches across):
Cast on 40 sts. Separate over 3 double-pointed needles.
Pattern: Knit 4, Purl 1
Repeat the pattern until the pumpkin measures approximately 6 inches from the cast-on edge. Cut yarn, leaving a 10-inch tail. Thread yarn through stitches and pull to tighten.
For larger pumpkins, not shown (measures roughly 6 inches across):
Cast on 60 sts. Separate over 3 double-pointed needles.
Pattern: Knit 4, Purl 1
Repeat the pattern until the pumpkin measures approximately 8 inches from the cast-on edge. Cut yarn, leaving a 12-inch tail. Thread yarn through stitches and pull to tighten.
How to assemble the knit pumpkins:
Turn the piece inside out. The Purl stitches will become the ridges on the pumpkin.
Take the tail end of the yarn and weave it through the bottom stitches.
Pull the yarn to tighten the hole.
Stuff liberally with the Poly fill.
When you are finished stuffing the pumpkin, pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Take the needle and push it all the way through the pumpkin to the other end.
Now you will have 2 lengths of yarn sticking out of the bottom of the pumpkin. Pull and knot the 2 lengths of yarns together. This will create a squat shape like a pumpkin, instead of a rounded shape
Cut a small length of twig and twist into the center of the pumpkin. Weave in ends.
