Vegan Tahini Chocolate Banana Ice Cream

Banana soft serve, aka nice cream is a low calorie and low fat vegan alternative to traditional ice cream. In the past, I’ve made a Strawberry Cheesecake version and a Pina Colada version. This time I figured I’d try one of my favorite flavor combinations- chocolate tahini.

What is Tahini?

Tahini is made from hulled sesame seeds. The hulled seeds are emulsified with oil to create a smooth, creamy seed butter with a pourable consistency. Tahini isn’t sweet like most nut butters, and the nutty flavor is strong and earthy, and can be a little bitter. A little goes a long way in most recipes!

Vegan Tahini Chocolate Banana Ice Cream

Ingredients needed:

3 frozen bananas (peel bananas and cut into sections before freezing. I like to put them in a ziplock bag to freeze)

2 tbsp Tahini

3 tbsp Cocoa powder

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

(Optional: I think the bananas make it sweet enough, but if you’d like extra sweetness, add 1-2 tbsp of maple syrup)

Directions:

Add all of the ingredients to a food processor or high-speed blender. Blend until smooth. You may have to stop and scrape down the sides as you go. Scoop into bowls. If the ice cream is too soft, you can put it in the freezer for 15 minutes to firm up. Top with dairy-free chocolate chips and sliced bananas.

Store leftovers in the freezer in an airtight container.
