How to Build an Easy Platform for a Playhouse
How to Build an Easy Platform for a Playhouse – a fast & beginner-friendly project that makes a big difference!
Indigo received this cedar playhouse as a birthday present. At first, I assembled it directly on the grass. The grass eventually died, leaving the house sitting on dirt. The inside of the playhouse started to seem dirty and buggy so I got the idea to build a platform.
Cedar is a durable outdoor wood, but it’s not ideal for ground contact. A platform would not only be cleaner, but it would also extend the life of the playhouse. Good news for Indigo because he loves this house, and good news for me because it took me 8 hours to assemble.
Above is the “before” picture. The platform also makes it easier to edge the grass around the house. Before I was worried about damaging the cedar and plastic with my string trimmer.

I had some composite deck boards leftover from my old porch as well as some 4x4x8 posts leftover from a fence I removed…making the grand total for this project $0!
Materials needed:
4×4 pressure-treated posts (I used 4x4x8 and cut them in half)
Deck boards (it’s not necessary to buy composite-it’s expensive, wood deck boards will be fine)
2×4 pressure-treated (for the front of the platform)
2 inch exterior screws

I made my platform 4×5 feet, but you can easily customize the size. I cut the 4x4s so they measured 4 feet each. I spaced the end ones 5 feet apart and centered the middle.
Next, I cut the deck boards to size and screw them to the posts. I left an approximately 1/8 gap between the boards.
Once I finished screwing the deck boards in place, I pushed the playhouse on to the platform. I screwed the playhouse to the platform on the sides, so it wouldn’t shift.
Lastly, I took a 2×4, cut it to size and screwed it to the front of the platform.
This platform took less than 2 hours to make and it worked out great. The playhouse looks better and the inside is so much cleaner!
