Needles: Size US 7 straight knitting needles
Gauge: 18 stitches (sts) and 34 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch
Size: bag measures approximately 17 inches long

Pattern instructions:
Cast on 60 stitches, leaving a 15 inch tail for sewing seams.
Work in garter st (knit every row) until the piece measures 36 inches. Cast off. The finished rectangle should measure 12 x 36 inches.
Strap:
Cast on 10 sts. Knit every row until the strap measures approximately 20 inches long. Bind off.
Finishing:
Lay the Rectangle Flat.
Take the bottom-left corner and fold it diagonally up so the top edge aligns with the top section, forming a triangle.
Take the top-right corner and fold it diagonally down so the bottom edge aligns with the bottom section, forming a second triangle pointing the opposite way.
Take the entire folded piece and fold it in half across the center diagonal line (bringing the two pointed ends/triangles together or folding the structure upward to establish the bag’s V-shaped opening.
This is what the piece should look like after folding.
Sew the side edges where the folded triangle edges meet the main body using a mattress stitch or whip stitch. You will have one seam on each side of the bag.
Sew the strap to the top corners of the bag.
