Note: This hat is knit holding 3 strands of yarn together at the same time—2 strands of #6 super bulky yarn and 1 strand of #4 worsted weight yarn. Treat the 3 strands as one strand throughout the entire pattern.
With US 15 (10 mm) circular needles, cast on 36 sts using all 3 strands held together.
Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
Rounds 1–3: *K1, P1; repeat from * around. (36 sts)
Body: Knit every round until the hat measures approximately 8 inches from the cast-on edge.
Shape the Crown
Decrease Round 1: *K4, K2tog; repeat from * around. (30 sts)
Round 2: Knit around.
Decrease Round 3: *K3, K2tog; repeat from * around. (24 sts)
Round 4: Knit around.
Decrease Round 5: *K2, K2tog; repeat from * around. (18 sts)
Decrease Round 6: *K1, K2tog; repeat from * around. (12 sts)
Decrease Round 7: K2tog around. (6 sts)
Cut all 3 strands of yarn, leaving an approximately 8–10 inch tail. Thread the yarn tails through the remaining 6 stitches and pull tightly to close the top of the hat.
