Pattern instructions:

Cast on 64 stitches. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round.

Ribbing

Round 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * around.

Repeat Round 1 until the ribbing measures 2 inches from the cast-on edge.

Body of Hat

Knit every round until the piece measures 9 inches from the cast-on edge.

Shape the Crown

Decrease Round 1: *K2, K2tog; repeat from * around. 48 stitches remain.

Round 2: Knit.

Decrease Round 3: *K1, K2tog; repeat from * around. 32 stitches remain.

Round 4: Knit.

Decrease Round 5: K2tog around. 16 stitches remain.

Decrease Round 6: K2tog around. 8 stitches remain.

Break the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Thread the tail through the remaining 8 stitches using a yarn needle. Pull tightly to close the top of the hat and secure.

Weave in all loose ends and block lightly if desired.
