How to Make Container Candles (Easy DIY Soy Candles for Beginners)
Supplies Needed for DIY Container Candles
One of the best things about candle making is that you only need a few basic supplies.
Double Broiler
Glass jars (you can clean the wax out of your old candle jars using this technique)
Fragrance oil
Paraffin wax
Wood wicks
Thermometer
Glue gun
You will need a double broiler to melt the wax. I used an old small saucepan inside a larger one filled with about 1 1/2 of water. Put the burner on medium-high heat. The wax will take approximately 7-10 minutes to melt (Please note- once you use a pot for melting wax, you should no longer use it for food)
While your wax is melting, proceed through the next few steps.
You’ll need to preheat your glass containers to prevent bubbles and help the wax stick to the container. Put them in the oven on 150 degrees for approximately 5 minutes
Take the wood wick and push it down on the metal holder that is included in the package.
Using a glue gun, add a dab of glue to the bottom of the metal wick holder.
While the glue is still wet, push the wick down in the center of the containers.
Once your wax has completely melted, you can add the fragrance oil. The general rule is 1 oz for fragrance per 1 lb. of wax. Don’t overload on fragrance because the wax can only hold so much. If you use too much fragrance you’ll be left with a puddle at the bottom of the container after the wax dries.

Let the wax cool for 6 hours minimum. I like to let mine cool overnight.
After the wax has dried, trim the wicks (using nail clippers) down to 1/4 inch.

Never leave candles unattended
Burn container candles only on a heat resistant surface. Containers can break.
Burn the candle for no more than 4 hours at a time.
Protect from drafts.
Keep the wick trimmed to ¼”

Do not move the candle while it is burning or while there is molten wax in it.
