Velvet Hair Bow DIY
Dress up a plain pony for the holidays with this Velvet Hair Bow DIY!
The inspiration for this DIY comes from these pretty Jennifer Behr velvet hair bows that I have been seeing on Instagram and in magazines. They’re feminine, festive and they can be worn with everything from jeans to party dresses. The only problem? Their triple-digit price tag! This Velvet Hair Bow DIY can be made in under 15 minutes and you only need some basic hand sewing skills.
I purchased the ribbon for this Velvet Hair Bow DIY from Amazon. I wasn’t expecting much because quality velvet ribbon can be expensive, so I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package to find 30 yards (1 yard of each color) of beautiful ribbon! The cut ends don’t fray much, it’s easy to sew and best of all, it looks a lot more expensive than it actually is!

Cut the ribbon into the following lengths:
1 piece- 7 1/2 inches
1 piece- 5 1/2 inches
1 piece- 1 3/4 inches
1 piece- 14 inches
Take the 7 1/2 inch piece and bring the ends together, making sure that it is centered.
Stitch the ends closed and the front to the back.
Repeat with the 5 1/2 inch piece and lay it on top of the larger section. Stitch together.
Take the 14 inch piece and cross the strands over each other as pictured.
Sew the ribbon strands to the back.
Sew the band to the back, wrap it around the front and place the hair elastic underneath. Trim off any excess length of ribbon and sew closed.
