Pattern instructions:
Cast on 32 stitches.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing as follows:
Row 1: *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * across the row.
Repeat Row 1 until the scarf measures approximately 60 inches long, or until it reaches your desired length.
Bind off all stitches loosely in pattern. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail, and pull the tail through the remaining loop to secure. Weave in any loose yarn ends using a yarn needle.
Adding the Fringe
Cut strands of yarn approximately 14 inches long. For each piece of fringe, hold 2 strands of yarn together and fold them in half.
Using a crochet hook, insert the hook through a stitch along the long outside edge of the scarf. Catch the folded center of the two yarn strands with the crochet hook and pull the loop partway through the stitch. Bring the loose ends of the yarn through the loop and gently pull to tighten and secure the fringe.
Continue adding fringe along the outside edge of the scarf, working 2 strands of yarn through each stitch until the desired edge is covered.
Once all the fringe has been attached, lay the scarf flat and gently trim the ends of the fringe with scissors as needed to create an even, finished appearance.
Note: The 14-inch strands will create fringe approximately 7 inches long once they are folded in half and attached to the scarf.
