How the Swirl Design Works
One of the most interesting things about this pattern is its construction.
The brim is worked first on circular needles to create a comfortable, stretchy fit around the head. After the brim is complete, the body of the hat is worked flat.
Simple increases and decreases gradually shape the fabric into a curved panel. Once the panel is sewn together, the shaping naturally forms the spiral effect that gives the hat its name.
The finished result looks intricate and unique, but the knitting itself remains straightforward and relaxing.
It’s one of those projects that always gets compliments because people assume it’s much more difficult than it actually is.
