Easy Kids Bulky Hat Crochet Pattern
Keep little ones warm on chilly days with this Easy Kids Bulky Hat Crochet Pattern. Made with cozy bulky weight yarn, this simple crochet hat works up quickly and has plenty of warmth without requiring a complicated pattern. It’s a great project for fall and winter, whether you’re making a new everyday hat for your child or a quick handmade gift.
One of the best things about this pattern is that the hat is crocheted flat. Instead of working in the round, you’ll crochet the hat back and forth in rows and seam it together at the end. If you’re newer to crochet, this kids crochet hat pattern is a great project for practicing your skills. Bulky yarn makes the stitches easy to see, and because the hat is worked flat, there’s no need to worry about joining rounds or keeping track of the beginning of each round.

Beginner crocheters
Practicing basic crochet stitches
Using bulky weight yarn
Making a quick fall or winter project
Crocheting handmade gifts for kids

Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across – 18 single crochet.
Row 2: Chain 1, turn, working in back loops only, single crochet in each single crochet across.
(Note- this hat can be crocheted in a solid color, or in 3 different colors like I used)
For one solid color:
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 18 inches from beginning. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail onto a yarn needle and sew the ends together. Make a running stitch at the top of the hat and pull to gather. Knot securely and weave in ends. Make and attach pom pom.
For 3 colors:
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 12 inches from beginning. Switch colors and crochet for 3 inches, switch colors again and crochet for an additional 3 inches (the piece will measure 18 inches total). Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail onto a yarn needle and sew the ends together. Make a running stitch at the top of the hat and pull to gather. Knot securely and weave in ends. Make and attach pom pom.
