How to Make Hand Sanitizer Spray- fast, easy and effective!

How to Make Hand Sanitizer Spray

Hand Sanitizer is sold out everywhere these days! Luckily, you can make your own using readily-available products.

Alcohol is the basis of many hand sanitizers. 99% isopropyl alcohol is the best to use, but you can make do with a lower concentration (up to 70%). Isopropyl alcohol is yet another product that seems to be sold out in stores and online. Thankfully, many of us have a bottle stashed in our medicine cabinet!

Materials

  • Small Spray Bottles
  • 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (Note- The World Health Organization says hand-washing with soap and water is the best way to clean your hands, but when that's not an option, the agency recommends using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and wipes with at least 70% alcohol; however, 99% isopropyl alcohol is the highest recommendation.)
  • Aloe Vera Gel (Note- at the time I wrote this post, Aloe Vera Gel was still widely available on Amazon. If you're looking for a substitute, you can also use Witch Hazel or Fractionated Coconut Oil.)
  • Essential Oils of your choice (I used Tea Tree Oil and Lavender)

Instructions

    1. Using an empty spray bottle (this one is from a makeup setting spray), pour the alcohol in until the bottle is slightly less than 3/4 full.
    2. Add a few pumps of aloe vera gel, witch hazel or fractioned coconut oil.
    3. Add 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Shake vigorously.

Small Spray Bottles (Note- at the time I wrote this post, small spray bottles for hand sanitizer were sold out on Amazon. I bought travel perfume bottles as an alternative. They take one extra step to fill, but they work great! You’ll only need 1 empty spray bottle to mix everything in and fill the perfume bottles.)

To fill the travel perfume bottles (skip this step if you’re just filling spray bottles): pull the nozzle off the spray bottle. Place the perfume bottle on top (there’s a hole at the bottom) and push down to pump. The perfume bottle will fill up.
