Easy Flat Knit Halloween Doll

One of the best things about this Halloween knitting pattern is that the pieces are knit flat on straight needles, so there’s no need to work with circular needles or double-pointed needles. The individual pieces are knit separately, then assembled and stuffed to create the finished doll.

A Fun Handmade Halloween Decoration

This knitted Beetlejuice doll is a fun alternative to traditional pumpkins and ghosts and adds a playful, slightly spooky touch to your fall decorating. Style him alongside pumpkins, black cats, bats and other handmade Halloween decorations, or make him the centerpiece of a movie-inspired display.

The combination of bold stripes and bright green hair makes this plush stand out among more traditional fall décor. Because it’s made from yarn rather than breakable materials, it’s also easy to pack away after Halloween and bring back out year after year. Pair it with some of your other Halloween knitting projects to create an entire collection of handmade spooky-season décor.

Tips for Knitting Flat Plush Toys

Knitting plush toys flat is a great option if you prefer working with straight knitting needles instead of knitting in the round. The individual pieces are worked separately and then seamed, stuffed and assembled to create the finished toy. A few simple techniques can help give your knitted plush a neat, professional-looking finish.

Keep your tension consistent. Even, slightly firm stitches help prevent the stuffing from showing through the knitted fabric.
Leave long yarn tails. When you finish each piece, leave enough yarn for seaming. This means fewer ends to weave in later.
Use mattress stitch for neat seams. Mattress stitch creates a clean join and helps hide the seam along the sides of your plush.
Stuff gradually. Add small amounts of fiberfill at a time, making sure to push stuffing into corners and smaller areas before closing the seam.
Don’t overstuff. Too much stuffing can stretch the stitches and distort the shape of the finished toy.
Shape as you stuff. Gently mold the head, body and other pieces with your hands as you add fiberfill.
Pin pieces before sewing. Position arms, legs, hair and other details with pins first so you can check that everything is even before attaching them permanently.
Weave in ends securely. Plush toys get handled more than decorative knits, so make sure yarn ends and seams are firmly secured.

Taking a little extra time with seaming, stuffing and assembly can make a big difference when knitting plush toys flat.

Plush Beetlejuice Knitting Pattern FAQ

Is this Plush Beetlejuice Knitting Pattern beginner-friendly?

Yes! This Plush Beetlejuice Knitting Pattern uses relatively simple knitting techniques and is a fun project for adventurous beginners. The pieces are worked separately, so you don’t have to manage complicated construction while you’re knitting.

Is the Beetlejuice doll knit in the round?

No. This plush doll is knit flat on straight needles. The individual pieces are knit separately and then seamed, stuffed and assembled to create the finished doll.

How big is the finished knitted Beetlejuice doll?

The finished plush measures approximately 11 1/2 inches tall. It’s a great size for displaying on a mantel, bookshelf, entryway table or alongside your other handmade Halloween decorations.

What does Kfb mean in the knitting pattern?

Kfb means knit front and back. Knit into the front of the next stitch, then knit into the back of the same stitch before sliding it off the needle. This creates one new stitch.

What should I use to stuff the plush?

Polyester fiberfill works well for knitted plush toys. Add small amounts at a time and shape the doll as you work. Avoid overstuffing, which can stretch the stitches and change the shape.

How should I attach the pieces?

Pin the pieces in position before sewing so you can make sure everything is centered and even. Use the yarn tails or matching yarn to sew the pieces securely in place.

Can I use this plush as Halloween décor?

Absolutely! The black-and-white stripes and bright green hair make this knitted Halloween doll a fun addition to pumpkins, ghosts and other spooky-season decorations.
