Get the Printable PatternUnderstanding the Waffle Stitch Texture
The waffle stitch is created using a combination of knit and purl stitches that form a raised textured pattern resembling tiny waffles. The alternating texture creates depth and softness while still keeping the knitting process simple and repetitive.
This stitch pattern is wonderful for blankets because:
it looks elegant
it adds warmth
it creates extra squishiness
it hides minor tension inconsistencies well
The texture also gives the blanket a cozy modern appearance that fits beautifully into many decorating styles.
Tips for Knitting the Best Waffle Knit Throw
Keep Your Tension Relaxed
A relaxed tension helps the waffle texture open up nicely and creates a softer finished blanket.
Use Stitch Markers
If you’re newer to knitting, stitch markers can help you keep track of repeats across long rows.
Measure as You Go
Checking your blanket measurements throughout the project helps ensure the final size turns out exactly how you want.
Block Your Finished Blanket
Blocking helps smooth the stitches and enhance the waffle texture. Even simple acrylic yarn benefits from gentle blocking.

Decorating with Knit Throw Blankets
One of the best things about handmade blankets is how they instantly make a room feel warm and inviting.
This Easy Waffle Knit Throw Pattern looks beautiful:
folded at the end of a bed
draped over a sofa
layered on an accent chair
styled in a nursery
used in a cozy reading nook
Neutral shades create a calm modern look, while rich seasonal colors can completely transform the mood of a space.
