Hurdle Stitch Hat Knitting Pattern- a pretty, textured hat in an easy to knit stitch!
This past week, the mornings have been chilly and I love it! It isn’t quite knitted hat weather, but you can tell it’s coming!
This hat is knit in the round. If you’ve never tried the Hurdle Stitch before, it’s easy! It created using alternate knit and purl stitches. I used Rowan Big Wool Silk for this hat. This was an older skein that I had and it doesn’t seem readily available anymore (except for a few skeins on Amazon). Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick is a great substitute that’s sold at most yarn stores.
This Hurdle Stitch Hat is a fast project thanks to the super bulky yarn and large needles. I finished this hat in an evening!
Hurdle Stitch Hat Knitting Pattern
Yarn: Rowan Big Wool Silk (a more widely available alternative is Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick)
Optional: Faux fur pom pom
Needles: Size US 13 circular knitting needles, 16 inch
Gauge: 2 inches = 4 sts.
Size: Women’s one size
Cast on 46 sts. Join together and place a marker.
Work in K1, P1 for 6 rows.
Row 7: Knit around.
Row 8: Purl around.
Row 9: K1, P1 across row.
Row 10: K1, P1 across row.
Rows 11-26: Repeat rows 7-10
Row 27: *k3, k2tog*, k1 *Repeat around row
Row 28: Knit around row.
Row 29: *k2, k2tog*,k1 *Repeat until end of row
Row 30: Knit around row.
Row 31: *k1, k2tog* *Repeat until the end of the row
Row 32: Knit around row.
Row 33: *k2tog*, k1 *Repeat until the end of the row.
Break yarn and pull through remaining stitches. Pull to tighten and weave in ends. Optional- attach faux fur pom pom.
