What Is Seed Stitch?

Seed stitch is one of the best stitches for beginners because it’s simple, forgiving, and creates beautiful texture.

It’s made by alternating knit and purl stitches in a repeating pattern, creating a fabric with small, raised bumps that resembles scattered seeds.

Unlike stockinette stitch, seed stitch lies flat and doesn’t curl, making it perfect for garments like ponchos.

If you already know how to knit and purl—you can absolutely make this.
