Jack O Lantern Crochet Pattern

Yarn: Loops & Threads Soft Classics in Curry, small amount of black worsted weight yarn for the eyes and mouth
Crochet Hook: H/8 (5 mm)
Also needed: fiber fill, yarn needle
Gauge: not necessary for this project
Size: approximately 11 1/2 inches tall
Pattern instructions:
With the orange yarn, chain 46 sts. Turn the chain over and starting with the second chain closest to hook, Single Crochet in the back loop of each chain. (45 sts)
Once the row is finished, make a turning chain and turn the work over. Single crochet in the back loop of each chain. Repeat, making a turning chain each time you finish a row. Work until your piece measures 18 inches. Bind off, leaving a long thread for seaming.
For the Eyes:
(make 2)
With the black yarn, ch 2.
Row 1 (right side): Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn—2 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, turn—3 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next st, 2 sc in last st, turn—5 sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
For the mouth:
Ch 4.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook. 3 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc. 3 sc.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc twice in first sc. Turn. Leave remaining stitches unworked.

Row 8: Ch 1. 2 sc in next 2 sc. 4 sc
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in each sc. 4 sc

Row 11: Ch 1, sc in each sc. 4 sc
Row 12: Ch 1, sc in next 2 sc. Turn. Leave remaining stitches unworked.
Row 13: Ch 1: sc in next 2 sc.
Row 14: Ch 1, sc in next 2 sc.
Row 14: Ch 1, sc twice in next 2 sc. 4 sc
Row 15: Ch 1, sc in each of the 4 sc.
Row 16: Ch 1, sc 2 tog, sc across. 3 sc
How to Assemble the Jack O Lantern
Fold the pumpkin over and sew the seam.
Thread a yarn needle and weave it in and out at the end of the pumpkin. Pull to gather. Make a knot to secure.
Add the fiber fill and run a stitch along the top of of the pumpkin like shown above. Pull to tighten and make a knot to secure.
For the stem:
Pick up and crochet 18 sts. around the top of the pumpkin. Work in single crochet for 6 rounds or until stem is desired height. Single crochet 2 sts together until there are 9 sts left. Break yarn. Thread a yarn needle with the end of the yarn and pull through remaining sts. Weave in ends.
Sew on the eyes and the mouth.
