Repeat these 18 rows until the scarf measures approximately 60 inches. Bind off after an 18th row.

Make and attach 3 tassels, evenly spaced, at the bottom ends of the scarf.

How to make the tassels:

Prepare Your Base

  • Choose an object like a piece of cardboard, book, or anything sturdy to wrap the yarn around. The height of the base will determine the tassel’s length. The book I used measured 7 inches wide.

Wrap the Yarn

  • Hold the end of the yarn against the base and start wrapping it around evenly.
  • Wrap it 30 times.

Tie the Top

  • Cut a piece of yarn about 6–8 inches long.
  • Slide it under the loops at one end and tie it tightly to secure the wrapped yarn. This will be the top of the tassel.

Cut the Loops

  • Slide the wrapped yarn off the base carefully.
  • Use scissors to cut the loops on the opposite end of the tie.

Shape the Tassel

  • To create the “neck” of the tassel, wrap another piece of yarn around the bundle, about 1 inch below the top.
  • Wrap it a few times and tie it securely, then trim or tuck in the ends.

Trim the Ends

  • Trim the bottom of the tassel to make it even.
