These cute fish are knit on straight knitting needles using basic increases and decreases. They’re a fun project for beginner knitters and they’re a great way to make use of stash yarn.

Flat Knit Plush Fish Knitting Pattern
If you’re new to knitting you might be unfamiliar with the term “kfb” found in this pattern. KFB means knit in the front and the back of a stitch. This increases 1 stitch.

Yarn: any #4 worsted weight yarn (I used Lion Brand Ferris Wheel in Cotton Candy )
Needles: Size US 6 single point knitting needles
Also needed: tapestry needle, poly fill, safety eyes or button eyes
Gauge: not necessary for this project
Size: Fish measures approximately 6 inches long
Pattern instructions for this knitted toy:
(make 2)
Cast on 20 sts.
Row 1: Purl across.
Row 2: k2tog, knit to last 2 stitches, k2tog
Repeat these 2 rows until 10 sts remain.
For the body:
Row 1: Purl across.
Row 2: Kfb, knit to the last stitch, Kfb.
Repeat these 2 rows until there are 20 sts.
Starting with a purl row, work in stockinette stitch for 9 rows, ending with a purl row.
Row 1: k2tog, knit to last 2 stitches, k2tog
Row 2: Purl across.
Repeat these 2 rows until 10 sts remain. Bind off.
How to assemble the plush knit fish
Add the eye.
Place one side of the fish on top of the other sides- wrong sides facing. Start sewing the sides together around the seam.
Leave an opening so you can add the fiber fill stuffing.
Sew the opening shut.
