How to Sew Fabric Twine Easter Baskets- these colorful, little baskets are perfect for holding candy and other small treats. Plus, they’re a great way to make use of scrap fabric!
These little Easter baskets are created using fabric twine. Fabric twine is easy to make by twisting strips of scrap fabric together. The end result is a beautiful twine that can be used to everything from adorning presents to knotting macramé plant hangers.
Supplies needed:
Woven cotton scrap fabric
Sewing machine
Needle & thread
The video below will show you how to create twin using scrap fabric. Tear or cut (approximately) 1 ½ inch wide strips out of the fabric. Take 2 strands and make a knot at the end. Loop them over something to hold. I used a nail and scrap wood, but you can use anything. Separate the strands and twist the right one away from you 2 times. Pass it over the left strand, and repeat. When you reach the end of the fabric strip, it’s time to add another. This is called a join. Stagger your joins so they are not right next to each other. Staggering the joins will result in a stronger twine.
How to Sew Fabric Twine Easter Baskets
Once the twine is made, you’re ready to sew the baskets!
Start at the knotted end and being coiling the twine. Set the sewing machine to a wide zig-zag stitch. You’ll need the stitch to be wide enough to catch both sides of the twine so you can sew them together. Sew the 2 sides of the twine together, moving the piece in a circular motion.
Keep sewing the twine in a circle. Sew until the base is the desired width.
Turn the base on its side and start sewing the twine to make the sides.
Bend the twine over to form a handle. Twist the 2 strands of the twine together.
Hand sew the loop end of the handle down.
Then, sew the other end of the handle in place. Cut off remaining twine.
