Whether you put up your Christmas tree super early (*raised hand*) or wait until the week before Christmas, one thing is the same. We all want a beautifully decorated tree. Making your dress look like the ones you see in magazines can be harder than you think! Today, I teamed up with Wayfair to share some easy tree decorating tips.

Start With a Great Tree and Fluff

Wayfair is my go-to shopping destination for all things home-related. They have a huge selection of Christmas trees from under 1 foot up to 16 feet! I wanted something traditional that mimicked the look of a real tree. As soon as I saw this beauty, I knew I had found my new Christmas tree! The tree arrived quickly and with free shipping (my favorite!).

Instructions

The first step is getting a great-looking Christmas tree is to fluff all the branches. Artificial trees get flattened out from shipping or storage, so it's best to spread each branch out. I start at the bottom and work my way up. This small amount of effort makes a huge difference in the fullness of your tree!
Next comes the lights! Whether you buy a pre-lit tree or string your own lights, make sure they are evenly distributed around the tree to ensure that there are no dark spots.
Ribbon: Wire ribbon is the easiest to use. I used a ribbon that was 2 1/2 inches wide. You'll need a lot more ribbon than you think! For a 7.5 foot tree I used approximately 40 feet. The trick is to start at the top and drape the ribbon loosely around the tree. It should cascade and not look "pulled".
Ornament time! I like to use a mix of classic balls, natural elements (pinecones), and DIY ornaments. An easy to way keep your tree from looking too busy is to limit the color palette. I like to layer the ball ornaments on the outer and inner branches. It makes the tree look fuller and adds additional color.
Finally, add picks! Floral picks are single stems of leaves, flowers, glittered berries, and other decor. They're ideal for nestling in tree branches to add visual interest to your Christmas tree. They can fill out spare areas on the tree and provide texture. Add a few different styles of picks in the color palette of your tree.

Lights

I remember the days of stringing hundreds of lights around the Christmas tree. There were always some lights that didn’t work and I’d inevitably end up with dark spots on the dress from not spreading the lights out properly. Now, I avoid this headache by buying pre-lit trees! I prefer white lights because it creates a neutral base for my ornaments. My Wayfair tree came pre-lit with the strands of light intricately wrapped around the branches to ensure a uniform glow.

Add Ribbon
