Textured Slouch Hat Knitting Pattern- classic slouch hat with a fun, textured pattern!
Forget September 23rd- September 1st marks the first day of fall around here! The boys and I had a wonderful summer and made so many great memories, but honestly, I’m a little over the heat, humidity and the insects. Early mornings are starting to require a sweater and I couldn’t be happier! This hat is the perfect wear-with-everything fall accessory. It’s cozy, comfortable and it can be dressed up or down.
This pattern is ideal for beginners who can knit using circular and double point needles. The pattern is created using knit and purl stitches.
Textured Slouch Hat Knitting Pattern
Yarn: Red Heart Soft Essentials in Teal (1 skein)
Needles: Size US 9 circular, 16 inch, Size US 9 Double Point needles
Gauge: 3 sts = 1 inch in stockinette stitch
Cast on 80 sts with the circular needles. Join ends together and place a marker.
Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 3 inches.
Knit increasing 4 sts evenly across the round (84 sts)
Round 1: *Knit 3 (P1, K1) twice, Knit 5. Repeat from *
Round 2: *Knit 2 (P1, K1) 3 times, Knit 4. Repeat from *
Round 3: *Knit 1 (P1, K1) 4 times, Knit 3. Repeat from *
Round 4: Same as 2nd round.
Round 5: Same as 3rd round.
Round 6: Same as 2nd round.
Round 7: Same as 1st round.
Round 8: Knit.
Round 9: Knit.
Round 10: *Knit 9. P1. K1. P1. Repeat from * around.
Round 11: *P1. Knit 7. (P1,. K1) twice. P 1. Repeat from * around.
Round 12: *K1. P1. Knit 5. (P1, K1) twice. Repeat from * around.
Round 13: Same as 11th round.
Round 14: Same as 12th round.
Round 15: Same as 11th round.
Round 16: Same as 10th round.
Round 17: Knit.
Round 18: Knit.
Work 1st- 9th rounds once more. Decrease 4 stitches evenly around the last round (80 sts).
Shape crown:
Switch to double point needles when needed.
Round 1: *Knit 8. Knit 2 together. Repeat from * around. (72 sts)
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *Knit 7. Knit 2 together. Repeat from * around. (64 sts)
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: *Knit 6. Knit 2 together. Repeat from * around. (56 sts)
Round 6: Knit.
Round 7: *Knit 5. Knit 2 together. Repeat from * around. (48 sts)
Round 8: Knit.
Round 9: *Knit 4. Knit 2 together. Repeat from * around. (40 sts)
Round 10: Knit.
Round 11: *Knit 3. Knit 2 together. Repeat from * around. (32 sts)
Round 12: Knit.
Round 13: *Knit 2. Knit 2 together. Repeat from * around. (24 sts)
Round 14: Knit.
Round 15: Knit 2 together across round (12 sts)
Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull through remaining stitches. Pull to tighten and weave in ends.
