Popcorn Knit Hat Pattern and Video Tutorial- learn a great new stitch & knit this textured beanie!

I always love the Popcorn Stitch. It’s cute, feels a bit retro and it’s fun to knit! If this is your first introduction to the Popcorn Stitch, you may look at the pattern and think “huh???”. Seeing the stitch written out makes it seem confusing, which is why I included a video tutorial. The Popcorn Stitch is created with 1 stitch. You increase and decrease while turning the work back and forth.

Yarn: Lion Brand Mandala in Warlock

Needles: Size US 7 Single Point

Pom Pom Maker

Pattern Stitch:

Rows 1-5: Knit across.

Row 6: K4, make a Popcorn Stitch (PC) as follows (YO, K1) 3 times in next stitch; turn, sl 1, P5; turn, sl 1, K5; turn (P 2 tog) 3 times; turn, sl 1, K 2 tog, PSSO. (Popcorn stitch made). *K5, PC; rep from * across, ending K2.[See video below to watch the Popcorn stitch being knit]

Row 7: K2, *P1 in back of next stitch, K5; rep from * across, ending K4

Row 8-11: Knit across

Row 12: K1, *PC, K5; rep from * across.

Row 13: *K5, P1 in back of next stitch; rep from * across, ending K1.

Repeat rows 2-13 for pattern.

Popcorn Knit Hat Pattern

Cast on 85 stitches. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 4 rows.

Work pattern rows 1-13 once.

Repeat pattern rows2-13 once.

Repeat pattern rows 2-12 once. Piece should measure approximately 5 inches from the cast on edge.

Repeat pattern row 13, then repeat pattern rows 2-6 once.
