Row 2: Purl first 2 sts together, purl to last stitch, knit twice in last stitch

I've not done this, so it may turn out to be a dumb question, but just reading through, I sure don't see how you're going to get the "swirl'. Another question – what is the gauge please? I'd love to make this larger for my tiny DIL, my grand-daughter, and my grandson. Love the pics! GrammaJeannie
Hi! The increases and decreases make the piece have an angular shape. When you join the ends together it creates a swirl pattern. It may sound a little funny, but I promise it works!
The gauge is 1 inch= 4 sts.
