Cast on 40 sts (42 sts). Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 6 1/4 (6 3/4) inches. 
Dec round 1: K, K2 together, repeat across row- 27 (29) sts.
Dec round 2: K 1, *K2 together* across row- 14 (15) sts.
Dec round 3: K2 together across row- 7 sts. (For sizes 2-3 years
K, K2 together, repeat across row 8 sts)
Dec round 4:  K, K2 together, repeat across row 5 sts. (For sizes 2-3 years

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through stitches of last row, pull to secure and make a knot.
