Yarn: Lion Brand Hometown Super Bulky Yarn in Riverdale Tweed (2 skeins)
Needles: Circular knitting needle size US 10, 36 in. (can switch to straight needles for the bonnet)
Gauge: 11 sts + 20 rows = approximately 4 inches in Stockinette stitch
Size: women’s one size
Abbreviations: M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.
pm- place marker
sm- slip marker
Pattern instructions:
For the straps:
Cast on 165 sts.
Knit 7 rows.
For the Hood:
Row 1: Bind off 63 sts, k18, place marker (pm), k3, pm, k18, bind off 63 sts – you will have 39 sts rem on needle for hood.
Cut yarn.
Row 2: From WS, rejoin yarn and p39, slipping markers as you come to them.
Row 3 (Increase Row): K to first marker, M1, slip marker (sm), k3, sm, M1, k to end of row – you will have 41 sts in this row.
Row 4: Purl, slipping markers as you come to them.
Rows 5-8: Rep Rows 3 and 4 twice more and remove markers while working Row 8 – 45 sts
in Row 8
Work even in Stockinette stitch until St st hood measures about 8 inches above
neckband, end with a purl row as the last row you work.
Row 1 (RS): K17, pm, k11, pm, ssk, TURN – 44 total sts rem on needle.
Row 2: Sl 1 as if to purl, sm, p11, sm, p2tog, TURN – 43 sts.
Row 3: Sl 1 as if to knit, sm, k11, sm, ssk, TURN – 42 sts.
Row 4: Sl 1 as if to purl, sm, p11, sm, p2tog, TURN – 41 sts.
Rep Rows 3 and 4 until only 13 sts remain. Place
the 13 sts on a holder and cut yarn.
FINISHING
For the Face edging:
From RS, pick up and k22 sts evenly spaced along right front edge of hood, k13 sts from
holder, pick up and k22 sts evenly spaced along left front edge of hood – you’ll have 57 sts.
Knit 5 rows.
Bind off as if to knit.
Sew side edges of edging to neckband.
Weave in ends.
