Yarn: Caron Blossom Cakes in Blue Orchid
Needles: size US 6 an US 7 straight knitting needles
Gauge: 19 sts = 4 inches; 24 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette st with larger needles
Sizes: Kids S/M, Kids M/L
Finished circumference: 17 3/4 (19 1/2) inches

Pattern instructions:
With smaller needles, cast on 84 (96) sts.
Row 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * around.
Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.

Switch to the larger needles and work in stockinette stitch (knit one side, purl the other). Work until the hat measures 51⁄2 (61⁄2) inches from cast-on edge.

Shape the crown:
Row 1: 
*K10, K2tog; repeat from * around – 77 (88) sts.
Rows 2-4: Purl across.
Row 5: *K9, K2tog; repeat from * around – 70 (80) sts.
Rows 6-7: Purl across.
Row 8: *K8, K2tog; repeat from * around – 63 (72) sts.
Row 9: Purl across.
Row 10: *K7, K2tog; repeat from * around – 56 (64) sts.
Row 11: Purl across.
Row 12: *K6, K2tog; repeat from * around – 49 (56) sts.
Row 13: Purl across.
Row 14: *K5, K2tog; repeat from * around – 42 (48) sts.
Row 15: Purl across.
Row 16: *K4, K2tog; repeat from * around – 35 (40) sts.
