Yarn: Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in Grass (2 skeins)
Needles: size US 7 straight knitting needles, Size US 8 straight knitting needles
Gauge: 18 sts = 4 inches 26 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using size 8 needles
Sizes: 6, 12, 18, 24 months
Dress measures 16 (18, 20, 21 1⁄2) inches around chest

Pattern instructions:
For the front:
With the size US 8 straight needles, cast on 57 (63, 69, 75) sts, and work 5 rows in garter stitch.
Work in Stockinette St until piece measures 9 (9 1⁄2, 10, 10 1⁄2) inches, beginning with a right side row and ending after a wrong side row.

For the bodice:
Next row (right side): * K2tog, k1; repeat from * to end – 38 (42, 46, 50) sts.
Knit 5 rows, then work in Stockinette St until piece measures 10 1⁄2 (11, 11 1⁄2, 12) inches, ending after a wrong side row.

Shape the Armholes:
1st Row (right side): Bind off 3 (4, 5, 6) sts, k to end – 35 (38, 41, 44) sts.
2nd Row: Bind off 3 (4, 5, 6), p to end – 32 (34, 36, 38) sts.
3rd Row: Bind off 1 st, k to end – 31 (33, 35, 37) sts.
4th Row: Bind off 1 st, p to end – 30 (32, 34, 36) sts.

Separate for Neck
Next row (right side): K10 (10, 11, 11) and place these sts on a holder for the left shoulder, bind off center 10 (12, 12, 14) sts for neck, knit to end.

Work in Stockinette st until the piece measures 11 1⁄2 (12, 12 1⁄2, 13 1⁄2) inches, ending after a wrong side row.

Right Shoulder
Work across 10 (10, 11, 11) right shoulder sts only as follows:
1st Row (wrong side): Purl.
2nd Row (dec row, right side): K1, k2tog, k to end – 9 (9, 10, 10) sts.
3rd Row (dec row, wrong side): Purl to last 3 sts, p2tog, p1 – 8 (8, 9, 9) sts.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 only once more – 6 (6, 7, 7) sts.

Work in Stockinette St until the right shoulder measures 14 (15, 16, 17) inches from cast on edge. Bind off right shoulder sts.

Left Shoulder
Place 10 (10, 11, 11) left shoulder sts back onto needle and join new yarn with wrong side facing.
1st Row (wrong side): Purl.
2nd Row: K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 – 9 (9, 10, 10).
3rd Row: P1, p2tog, p to end – 8 (8, 9, 9) sts.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 only once more – 6 (6, 7, 7) sts.
Work evenly in Stockinette St until Left Shoulder measures 14 (15, 16, 17) inches from cast on edge. Bind off the left shoulder sts.

Back:
Work the same as front.

Finishing:
Sew Back to Front at right shoulder only.

For the Neck Edging:
Using the size US 7 straight needles and with right facing, pick up and k 18 (18, 20, 20) sts down left Front neck edge, 10 (12, 12, 14) sts along bound off edge at Front neck, 18 (18, 20, 20) sts up right Front neck edge, 18 (18, 20, 20) sts down right Back neck edge, 10 (12, 12, 14) sts along bound off edge at Back neck, and 18 (18, 20, 20) sts up left Back neck edge – 92 (96, 104, 108) sts.

Knit 4 rows, then bind off all sts loosely.
Sew left shoulder seam.

Finishing:
Sew side seams.
Weave in all loose ends.
