Christmas Tree Crochet Pattern

Christmas Tree Crochet Pattern

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver (the large tree was make using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick)
Crochet hook: Size US H (Size US L for the larger tree make with super bulky yarn)
Also needed: poly-fill
Size: Smaller trees measure approximatlety 8 inches high, larger tree measures approximately 10 1/2 inches high
Gauge: not necessary for this pattern

Pattern instructions:
(Note- the small and large tree are knit using the same pattern. The larger tree uses heavier yarn and a larger hook)

Round 1: make 5 sc in magic ring (5 sts)
Round 2: sc in each stitch around (5 sts)
Round 3: make 2 single crochet in each st (10 sts)
Rounds 4 & 5: sc in each st around (10 sts)
Round 6: [make 2 sc in next st, sc in next st] repeat 5 times (15 sts)
Rounds 7 & 8: sc in each st around (15 sts)
Round 9: [make 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts] repeat 5 times (20 sts)
Rounds 10 & 11: sc in each st around (20 sts)
Round 12: [make 2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] repeat 5 times (25 sts)
Rounds 13 & 14: sc in each st around (25 sts)
Round 15: [make 2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts] repeat 5 times (30 sts)
Rounds 16 & 17: sc in each st around (30sts)
Round 18: [make 2 sc in the next st, sc in next 5 sts] repeat 5 times (35 sts)
Rounds 19 & 20: sc in each st around (35 sts)
Round 21: [make 2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts] x 5 (40 sts)
Rounds 22-23: sc in each st around (40 sts)

Decrease rounds:
Round 24: Working in the back loop [Sc 2 sts together, sc in next 6 sts] repeat 5 times (35 sts)
Working in both loops:
Round 25: [sc 2 sts together, sc in next 5 sts] repeat 5 times (30 sts)
Round 26: [sc 2 sts together, sc in next 4 sts] repeat 5 times (25 sts)
(at this point, stuff the tree with poly fill. I added a weight at the base of the tree to make it more sturdy. I used a ziplock bag of rice, but you can also you small stones in a ziplock bag)
Round 27: [sc 2 sts together, sc in next 3 sts] repeat 5 times (20 sts)
Round 28: [sc 2 sts together, sc in next 2 sts] repeat 5 times (15 sts)
Round 29: [sc 2 sts together, sc in next 1 st] repeat 5 times (10 sts)
Round 30: sc 2 sts together in next 10 sts (5 sts)
Break yarn and close opening. Weave in ends.
