Slipper Socks Knitting Pattern

Yarn: Lion Brand Heartland Yarn in Grand Canyon (1 skein)
Needles: Size US 8 double point knitting needles
Gauge: 8 sts = 2 inches in stockinette stitch
Sizes: S/M, M/L (Small medium will fit US women’s shoe size 7/8 and M/L will fit 9/10)

Pattern instructions:
(make 2)
Cast on 42 sts and divide onto 3 needles, (14 sts on each needle). Join in round. Place marker on the first st. 
Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 inches.
Knit in the round until work from beg measures 5 inches.
Next round: K2tog. Knit to end of the round. (41 sts)
Knit 6 rounds even.
Next round: K2tog. Knit to end of round. (40 sts)
Knit in the round until work from the beg measures 9 inches.

For the heel:
Arrange the heel stitches as follows: Slip 3 sts from end of 1st needle onto beg of 2nd needle, 3 sts from beg of 3rd needle onto end of 2nd needle. 40 sts are now divided as follows: 10 sts on 1st needle, 20 sts on 2nd needle, and 10 sts on 3rd needle.

Divide 20 sts on 2nd needle onto 2 needles and leave for instep.
Knit 10 sts off 1st needle onto 3rd needle.
Working on these 20 sts for heel, proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Sl1. Knit to the end of the row.
2nd row: *Sl1P. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows (8) times more, then 1st row once.

Shape the heel:
Row 1: (RS). K11. ssk. K1. Turn.
Row 2: Sl1P. P3. P2tog. P1. Turn
Row 3: Sl1. K4. ssk. K1. Turn
Row 4: Sl1P. P5. P2tog. P1. Turn
Row 5: Sl1. K6. ssk. K1. Turn
Row 6: Sl1P. P7. P2tog. P1. Turn
Row 7: Sl1. K8. ssk. K1. Turn
Row 8: Sl1P. P9. P2tog. P1. Turn
Row 9: Sl1. Knit to end of row. (12 sts)

Make the instep: 
Slip 20 sts for instep onto one needle.
1st needle: With RS of work facing and using the heel needle, pick up and knit (9) sts along side of heel. 2nd needle: K20 sts from instep. 3rd needle: Pick up and knit (9) sts along other side of heel. K6 from 1st needle onto 3rd needle. 48 (50) sts are now divided as follows: 14 (15) sts on 1st needle, 20 sts on 2nd needle and 14 (15) sts on 3rd needle.

Round 1: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: Knit. 3rd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to end of needle.
Round 2: Knit.
Repeat these 2 rounds to 40 sts divided as 10 sts on 1st needle, 20 sts on 2nd needle and 10 sts on 3rd needle.
Knit even until work from picked up row measures (71⁄2) inches.

Shape the toe:
Round1: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 3rd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to the end of the needle.
Round 2: Knit.
Rep these 2 rounds until there are 16 sts. left.
Knit sts of 1st needle onto end of 3rd needle. Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Graft 2 sets of 8 sts for toe.
