Easy Flat Knit Snowman- beginner-friendly pattern for a plush, decorative snowman
It’s not winter without a snowman! This never-melt, plush version is knit on straight needles. he body and head are one piece. The hat, scarf and twig arms are knit separately and then sewn on.

Easy Flat Knit Snowman

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Soft White, Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn in Red Hot, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Barley
Needles: Size US 7 single point knitting needles
Also needed: Fiber fill, yarn needle, 2 pipe cleaners, button eyes
Gauge: not necessary for this project
Size: Snowman measures approximately 10 inches tall from bottom to top.
Pattern instructions:
For the Body:
With the white yarn, cast on 9 sts.
Rows 1 and 2: *K1. Inc 1 st in next st. Rep from * to last st. K1. 19 sts after 2nd row.
Row 3: Inc 1 st in each st to end of row (38 sts)
Row 4: *K1. Inc 1 st in next st. Rep from * to end of row. (57 sts).
Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 7 inches from the cast-on edge.
For the Head:
Next row: *K2. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. (43 sts) Place marker at each end of last row. Beginning with a purl row, continue even in stockinette st for 4 inches.
Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. (22 sts) Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread end through rem sts and pull to gather. Fasten securely. Sew back seam, stuffing as you sew.
For the Hat:
With the red yarn, cast on 43 sts. Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 4 inches from the cast-on edge.
Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. (22 sts) Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread end through rem sts and pull to gather. Fasten securely. Sew the back seam of hat.
For the Scarf:
With the red yarn, cast on 5 stitches. Work in Garter stitch until the piece measures 18 1/2 inches. Bind off.
For the Arms:
(make 2)
With the brown yarn, cast on 14 stitches. Work in Stockinette stitch until the pieces measures 1 inch. Bind off.
(make 2)
Cast on 6 sts. Work in stockinette stitch for 5 rows. Bind off. (See pictures and instructions below for finishing)
Finishing the Snowman:
Sew on the hat. Add the eyes and mouth and stitch on the nose. Sew the scarf on.
To Make the Twig Arms:
Fold the pipe cleaner in half. Wrap the larger knit piece around it and sew at the seam.
Fold the smaller knit piece over and sew the side seam. Sew the smaller piece to the larger at the bottom. Push the pipe cleaner ends through the sides of the snowman and sew in place.
