30 Minute Flat Knit Kids Hat Free Knitting Pattern

With the holidays fast approaching, I’m sure you’re all pressed for time. Hand knit gifts are always great to give but they often take a long time to make. This cozy, little hat only takes 30 minutes to knit! It uses huge needles and very thick yarn so this project moves along at lightening speed.

This knitting pattern is knit flat, so it’s perfect for beginners. This Red Heart Grande yarn comes in a bunch of beautiful colors for both boys and girls.

Yarn: Red Heart Grande Yarn in Foggy (1 skein)
Needles: Size 35 US straight
Pom Pom maker
Gauge: 2 sts= 2 inches
Sizes: Age Toddler, Small Child, Medium Child, Large Child
Kid’s Hat Knitting Pattern
Cast on 19 (20, 21, 22) sts. Work in Stockinette stitch until piece measures 6 (6, 7, 7) inches from the cast on edge.
Shape crown (for toddler & medium size child sizes):
Knit 2 together across the row, K1
Purl 2 together across row
Knit 2 together across row, K1

Shape crown (for small & large child sizes):
Knit 2 together across the row
Purl 2 together across row
Knit 2 together across row, K1

Finishing: Break yarn, pull through remaining stitches. Pull to tighten and sew side seam. Make and attach pom pom.
