Womens Hooded Sweater Knitting Pattern

Yarn: Caron Big Cakes in Boysenberry (2 skeins)
Needles: Size US 8 straight knitting needles
Gauge: 7 sts= 2 inches
Size: X/S, M/L (Chest on XS/S measures approximately 42 inches)

Pattern instructions:

Front: 
**Cast on 91 (101) sts.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing until the piece measures 1 1/2 inches.

Switch to stocking st and work until the Front from beginning measures 15 (15 1/2) inches, ending with RS row.

Armhole shaping: 
Cast off 5 sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end of next 4 (4) rows. 73 (83) sts.

Work 14 rows in stocking st.**
Work 2 (2) rows in stocking st.

Divide for front:
Next row: K36 (41). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle. Continue in stocking st until opening measures 3 inches, ending with WS facing for next row.

Neck shaping:
Next row: Cast off 6 sts. Purl to end of row. Work 1 row even. Cast off 3 sts beg next and following alt rows 3 times more. 18 (23) sts.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next and following alt rows 3 times more. 14 (19) sts. Work 3 rows even.

Shoulder shaping: 
Cast off 7 (9) sts beg next row. Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 7 (10) sts.
With RS of work facing, join MC to rem 37 (42) sts. Cast off first st. Knit to end of row. Continue in stocking st until opening measures 3 inches ending with RS facing for next row.

Neck shaping:
Next row: Cast off 6 sts. Knit to end of row. Work 1 row even. Cast off 3 sts beg next and following alt rows 3 times more. 18 (23) sts. Work 1 row even. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next and following alt rows 3 times more. 14 (19) sts. Work 2 rows even.

Shoulder shaping: 
Cast off 7 (9) sts beg next row. Work 1 row even. Cast off remaining 7 (10) sts.

Back:

Work as given for Front from ** to **.
Work in stocking st until the Back measures the same length as Front to beginning of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Cast off 7 (9) sts beg next 2 rows. Cast off 7 (10) sts beg next 2 rows. Cast off rem 45 sts.

Sleeves:
Cast on 59 (61) sts.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1 1/2 inches, ending on a Right Side.

Work in stocking st, increase 1 st each end of 5th and every following 8th row to 79 (83) sts. Continue even until Sleeve from the beginning measures 17 1/2 (18) inches, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape Top: 
Cast off 5 sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end of next 4 (4) rows. 61 (65) sts. Cast off.

Hood:
Left Half: Cast on 46 sts. Proceed in stocking st for 8 1/2 inches ending with RS facing for next row. **Dec 1 st beg next and following alt rows 12 times. 33 sts. Work 1 row even. Cast off 5 sts beg next and following alt rows 4 times. Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 8 sts.**

Right Half: Cast on 46 sts. Proceed in stocking st for 8 1/2 inches, ending with WS facing for next row. Work from ** to ** as given for Left Half.

Finishing:
Front Neck Edging: With RS of work facing and MC, pick up and knit 12 sts down left front neck opening and 12 sts up right front neck opening. 24 sts. Cast off knitwise (WS).

Sew the shoulder seams. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the side and sleeve seams. Sew the hood together along back and top seams. Sew the hood to neck edge.
