Easy Kids Ski Mask Knitting Pattern
Yarn: Patons Canadian Yarn in Medium Teal (1 skein) worsted weight yarn, acrylic, 205 yds, 3.5 oz
Needles: Size US size 7 16-inch circular needles, Size US 8 circular needles
Also needed: stitch markers, yarn needle
Gauge: 2 inches = 8 sts with the larger needles in Stockinette Stitch
Size: kids ages 4-7 years old
This pattern is suitable for beginner+ knitters
Pattern instructions:
With the smaller circular needle, cast on 76 sts. Join ens together and place a marker on the first stitch.
Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 3 inches.
Switch to larger circular needle.
Next round: *K19. M1. Rep from * around. (80 sts)
Knit in rounds until work from last row of ribbing measures 4 inches.
Face opening: Next round: K29. Cast off next 22 sts. Knit to the end of the round. Remove marker. Knit to end of row. (58 sts)
Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:
1st row: (WS). Purl.
2nd row: (RS). K1. ssk. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. (56 sts)
3rd and alt rows: Purl.
4th row: Knit.
6th row: K1. M1. Knit to last st. M1. K1. (58 sts)
8th row: Knit to end of row. Cast on 22 sts over cast-off sts. K29. PM. (80 sts)
Knit in rounds until work from the last row of opening measures 2 inches.
Shape the top of the head
(switching to double- pointed needles when necessary or use magic loop)
1st round: *K6. K2tog. Rep from *around. (70 sts)
2nd and alt rounds: Knit.
3rd round: *K5. K2tog. Rep from * around. (60 sts)
5th round: *K4. K2tog. Rep from * around. (50 sts)
7th round: *K3. K2tog. Rep from * around. (40 sts)
9th round: *K2. K2tog. Rep from * around. (30 sts)
11th round: *K1. K2tog. Rep from * around. (20 sts)
13th round: *K2tog. Rep from * around. (10 sts)
Break yarn and thread through remaining stitches using a yarn needles. Remove the stitches from the knitting needles and pull to tighten. Weave in ends.
Optional: single crochet around the face opening to give it a more finished look.
