Lion Brand’s Wool-Ease Thick & Quick is one of my favorite yarns to use for winter hats. I freature it frequently here on the blog. The super-bulky weight is ideal for cozy hats and scarves. Thick & Quick comes in a huge array of colors including self-striping.
This men’s beanie features a rib stitch design and a wide brim. This easy knit hat can be completed in an evening thanks to the super bulky yarn and large needles.

Mens Thick and Quick Hat Knitting Pattern
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Slate (super bulky weight yarn, 1 skein of yarn needed)
Needles: Size US 13, 16-inch, Size US 13 double point needles
Gauge: 2 inches = 4 sts.
Size: Men’s one size
Skill level: beginner
Pattern instructions:
With the circular needles, cast on 56 sts. Join ends together and place a marker.
Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 11 inches.
Shape crown (decreases):
(switch to dpns when necessary)
Round 1: Knit 2, Purl 2, Knit 2 together, Purl 2 across round.
Round 2: Knit 2, Purl 2, Knit 1, Purl 2 together across round.
Round 3: K2tog, Purl 2, Knit 1, Purl 1 across round.
Round 4: Knit 1, Purl 2 together, Knit 1, Purl 1 across round. (28 sts)
Round 5: Knit 2 together across round (14 sts)
Round 6: Knit 2 together across round (7 sts)
Break yarn and thread through remaining stitches using a yarn or tapestry needle. Pull to tighten and weave in ends.
