How to Knit the Feather and Fan Stitch
How to Knit the Feather and Fan Stitch- This beginner-friendly stitch creates a beautiful fan shape with alternating waves.
This 2 color feather and fan stitch is ideal for scarves, baby blankets, and throws. This stitch may look complicated, but it’s actually quite easy to knit! The design is created by repeating 4 rows. I changed the color of the yarn every 4 rows to emphasize the wave pattern.
In addition to the written pattern below, I also posted a video tutorial.
If you’re new to knitting they might be some abbreviations in the pattern that you are not familiar with:
Abbreviation used in this pattern:
k2tog- knit 2 stitches together.
yo- means yarn over. Simply, pass the yarn over the right-hand knitting needle. A new loop is created on the next row.
How to Knit the Feather and Fan Stitch
Yarn: Since the Feather and Fan stitch is lacey, it works best with lighter-weight yarns. I used Lion Brand Jeans and size US 7 single-point needles. I wouldn’t recommend using any yarn heavier than this.
Cast on multiples of 18 and then add 2 more stitches. (I used 38 stitches)
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Row 3: k1, *[k2tog] 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, [k2tog] 3 times; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 4: Knit across.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern. (I alternated the color of the yarn every 4 rows.)
