Toddler Thick & Quick Hat Knitting Pattern- the perfect cold-weather toddler hat, knit using Lion Brand’s Mandala Thick & Quick yarn.

Thick & Quick is one of my favorite yarns for knitting winter accessories. It’s easy to work with, super-warm and it comes in dozens of colors (like this pretty self-striping skein called Thumbprint). This toddler hat knits up in a few hours. It’s knit on circular needles and the crown is shaped on double point knitting needles. It features a ribbed brim and the rest of the hat is knit in the round. The finishing touch is a big, fluffy pom pom.

Toddler Thick & Quick Hat Knitting Pattern

Yarn: Lion Brand Mandala Thick & Quick in Thumbprint (1 skein)

Needles: Size US 11 circular, 16 inch, Size US 11 double point knitting needles

Size: 2-3 years old

Guage: 2 inches = 5 sts

Cast on 42 stitches with the circular needles. Join ends, being careful not to twist the yarn. Place maker. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 rows.

Knit in the round until the piece measures 5 1/2 inches from the cast-on edge.

Shape crown:

Switch to double point needles when necessary

Row 1: *K5, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round. (36 sts)

Row 2: Knit around

Row 3: *K4, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round. (30 sts)

Row 4: *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round. (24 sts)

Row 5: *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round. (18 sts)

Row 6: *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to end of round. (12 sts)

Row 7: *K2tog, repeat from * to end of round. (6 sts)

Break yarn and pull through remaining stitches. Pull to gather. Weave in ends. Make and attach pom pom.
