Baby Ear Flap Hat [knitting pattern]
A while back I created this knitting pattern for an Ear Flap hat. Not only is it one of my most popular patterns to date, it’s also my favorite! I made several in different colors and I wear them all winter long. Naturally, I wanted to knit a scaled down version for my little guy. This hat knits up really fast thanks to the big needles and extra bulky yarn.
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick (1 skein)
Needles: Size 13 circular 16 inches long
Size 13 straight needles (for the ear flaps)
Knitting Pattern
Size: 6-12 months
Gauge: 2 sts= 1 inch
Cast on 32 sts. Work in K1 P1 ribbing for 2 rows. Knit in the round until piece measures 5 1/2 inches from the beginning. To shape the crown: Knit 2 sts together all around until you are left with 5 stitches. Cut
yarn, leaving a 5 inch tail. Thread tail through stitches of last row, pull to secure and make a knot. Make and attach pom pom.

Would love to have instructions for the flaps as well as the hat! Want to make my own but want to have the ear flaps too
Cute but where are ear flap directions? I am not seeing them
I didn't realize that the directions had been cut off- thanks for bringing that to my attention! I re-posted them under the picture.
I didn't realize until I went to a knitting store to ask a question that this hat is supposed to be knit 'in the round'. Since I've already knit the 5.5" flat, I'm going to rip it out & start over. My question is – how do you knit in the round with only 5 stitches left? It seems like you won't be able to continue to knit in the round as the number of stitches are reduced.
Hi! To shape the crown, you have to use the Magic Loop Method (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdSpc0EZpnk) or you can switch to Double Pointed needles if you prefer.
Hi Gina – thanks so much for your response. I'm going to give the Magic Loop Method a try.
Hi Gina – one more question please – when you say to sew the ear flaps approximately 5 inches apart, is that 5 inches from the center of the flaps or the edge of the flaps? Thanks so much!
Hi- it's 5 inches from the edge of the flaps
