    Pattern instructions:

    Right glove:
    With no. 5 needles cast on 32 stitches.
    Switch to no. 4 needles and work in K 2 P 2 ribbing for 6 inches.
    Change to no. 5 needles and work in Stockinette stitch until length from last row of ribbing is 2 1/4 inches. End with a Purl row.

    Thumb opening:
    Knit across first 16 stitches.
    Bind off the next 5 stitches. Knit across the remaining 11 stitches.

    Next row:
    Purl across 11 stitches. Cast on 5 stitches over the bound-off stitches. Purl across the remaining 16 stitches.

    Continue in Stockinette stitch until the piece measures 5 inches from the last row of ribbing.

    Finishing:
    Work in K 2, p 2 ribbing for 3/4 inch. Bind off in ribbing. Sew side seam.

    Left Glove:
    Work same as Right Glove to Thumb Opening.

    Thumb Opening:
    Knit across first 13 stitches. Bind off the next 5 stitches. Knit across remaining 14 stitches.

    Next row:
    Purl across 14 stitches. Cast on 5 stitches over the bound-off stitches. Purl across remaining 13 stitches.

    Continue in Stockinette stitch until length from last row of ribbing measures 5 inches.
