Yarn: Lion Bran Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Grass (1 skein)
Needles: Size US 11 circular knitting needles, 16- inch
Gauge: 10 sts and 14 rows = 4 inches
Size: Women’s one size
Abbreviations:
M1L = Make 1 stitch by picking up horizontal loop lying before next stitch from front to back and knitting into back of loop
M1R = Make 1 stitch by picking up horizontal loop lying before next stitch from back to front and knitting into front of loop
Pattern Instructions:
Earflaps (make 2)
With pair of 2 double-pointed needles, cast on 3 sts. *K3. Do not turn. Slide sts to opposite end of needle.
Rep from * until I-Cord measures approximately 10 inches. Do not slide sts at end of last row. Turn work.
Proceed to shape Earflap as follows:
Row 1: (WS). Purl.
Row 2: K1. M1R. K1. M1L. K1. (5 sts)
Row 3: Purl to end of row.
Row 4: P1. M1R. Knit to last st. M1L. K1. (7 sts)
5th to 12th rows: Rep 3rd and 4th rows 4 times. (15 sts)
13th row: Purl to end of row.
14th row: Knit to end of row.
15th row: As 13th row.
16th and 17th rows: Rep 14th and 15th rows.
Leave each Earflap on a double- pointed needle for joining rnd.
Body of Hat
Joining round: With circular needle, cast on 18 sts. With RS facing, K15 across first Earflap. Cast on 8 sts. With RS facing, K15 across second Earflap. Join in rnd. PM for beg of round.
Round 1: P18. K15. P8. K15. (56 sts)
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: Same as 1st rnd.
Round 4: Knit
Work in stocking st (knit every round) until work from joining round measures 5 inches.
Change to set of double-pointed needles as needed during shaping:
Shape crown:
Round 1: *K2tog. K10. ssk. Rep from * around. (48 sts)
Round 2 and alt rounds: Knit
Round 3: *K2tog. K8. ssk. Rep from * around. (40 sts)
Round 5: *K2tog. K6. ssk. Rep from * around. (32 sts)
Round 9: *K2tog. K2. ssk. Rep from * around. (16 sts)
Round 10: *K2tog. Rep from * around. (8 sts) Break yarn leaving a long end. Thread end through remaining sts and fasten securely. Weave in ends.
