Scrap Yarn Top Down Baby Sweater Knitting Pattern

Yarn: Lion Brand Heartland in Indiana Dunes (1 skein), scrap yarn- #4 worsted weight for the body
Needles: size US 7 and US 8 circular knitting needles 16 inches long. Set of 4 sizes US 8 double- pointed knitting needles
Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4 inches with larger needles in stocking stitch.
Sizes: 6 months, 12 months

Pattern instructions:
(Sweater is worked in one piece from top down)

With the main color and larger circular needle, cast on 30 (36) sts. Do not join. Working back and forth in rows across needle to shape neck edge, proceed as follows:

Row 1: (RS). K2. M1. PM. K1. PM. M1. K4 (6). M1. PM. K1. PM. M1. K14 (16). M1. PM. K1. PM. M1. K4 (6). M1. PM. K1. PM. M1. K2. 38 (44) sts. 
Row 2: Purl across.
Row 3: *Knit to next marker. M1. Slm. K1. Slm. M1. Rep from * 3 times more. Knit to the end of the row. 
Row 4: Purl across.

Repeat the last 2 rows twice more. 62 (68) sts.

Start working in rounds.
Round 1: Cast on 10 (12) sts. K5 (6). PM for beg of rnd. *Knit to next marker. M1. Slm. K1. Slm. M1. Rep from * 3 times more. Knit to end of rnd. 80 (88) sts.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *Knit to the next marker. M1. Slm. K1. Slm. M1. Rep from * 3 times more. Knit to the end of the round. Rep 2nd and and 3rd rounds (8) times more. 152 (160) sts.

Work (3) rounds even.

Divide for the Body and Sleeves:
At this point start using your scrap yarn. Tie on new colors as needed.
Round 1: K22 (23). Slip next 32 (34) sts onto st holder for the Left Sleeve. Cast on 2 sts. K44 (46) for Back. Slip next 32 (34) sts onto st holder for Right Sleeve. Cast on 2 sts. K22(23). 92 (96) sts for the Body.

Knit in rounds until work from the dividing round measures 6 1/2 (7 1/2) inches.

Change to smaller circular needles
Next round: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.

Rep the last round of (K1. P1) ribbing 5 times more. Cast off in ribbing.

Sleeves
With set of larger double- pointed needles, K32 (34) from the stitch holder. Pick up and knit 2 underarm sts. Join in the round. PM between picked up sts for beginning of rnd. 34 (36) sts for Sleeve. Knit in rounds, dec 1 st at beg and end of every following 9th (10th) round 4 times. 26 (28) sts.

Knit even in rounds until the Sleeve from dividing round measures 7 (7 1/2) inches. Change to double- pointed needles.

Work 4 rnds in (K1. P1) ribbing as given for Body. Cast off in ribbing.

Neck Ribbing: With double-pointed needles and beginning at the back left shoulder seam, pick up and knit 52 (54) sts around neck opening. Join in round. PM on first st.

Next rnd: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last round of (K1. P1) ribbing 5 times more. Cast off in ribbing.
