Bulky Cable Hat Knitting Pattern
Yarn: Red Heart Soft in Dark Leaf
Needles: Size US 9, 16 inch circular knitting needles, Size US 10, 16 inch circular knitting needles, cable needles
Gauge: 12 sts and 16 rows = 4 inches with Size US 10 needles in Stockinette Stitch
Abbreviations in this pattern:
C8B = Slip next 4 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K4, then K4 from cable needle.
C8F = Slip next 4 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. K4, then K4 from cable needle.
Pattern instructions:
With the smaller circular needles, cast on 60 sts. Join ends together and place a marker.
Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 5 rows.
Next round: *(K1. M1) 3 times. K2. Rep from * around. (96 sts)
Switch to larger needles and work in cable pattern as follows:
Rounds 1 and 2: Knit.
Round 3: *C8F. K4. Rep from * around.
Rounds 4 to 8: Knit.
Round 9: *K4. C8B. Rep from * around.
Rounds 10 to 12: Knit.
These 12 rounds form the cable pattern.
Repeat the last 12 rounds of the cable pattern once more.
Shape the Crown:
Round 1: *K2tog. K8. ssk. Rep from * around. (80 sts)
Round 2 and alternate rounds: Knit.
Round 3: *K2tog. K6. ssk. Rep from * around. (64 sts)
Round 5: *K2tog. K4. ssk. Rep from * around. (48 sts)
Round 7: *K2tog. K2. ssk. Rep from * around. (32 sts)
Round 9: *K2tog. ssk. Rep from * around. (16 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Make and attach Pom Pom. Weave in ends.
