How to Knit a Star Shape- a fast and fun pattern that's perfect for garland, gift toppers or Christmas ornaments.

These little knit stars make for great holiday décor! They are quick to knit and they're a great way to make use of scrap yarn.
Knitting terms used in this pattern:
SSK- slip, slip, knit. This decreases 1 stitch.
Sl1- take one stitch from the left needle and slip it on to the right.
Kfb- knit in the front and the back of a stitch. This increase 1 stitch.
How to Knit a Star Shape
Yarn: Any #4 weight yarn
Needles: Size 7 single point knitting needles
Note- the the yarn that's leftover from the cast on is used to sew the star so make sure you're with 6-8 inches after you're finished.
Cast on 3 stitches, place marker. Repeat until you have 18 stitches and 5 markers.
Row 1: (right side) (K1. P1. K1) across row.
Row 2: (K1. Sl1. K1) across row.
Row 3: (K1. P1. K1) across row.
Row 4: (Kfb. Sl1. Kfb) across row. (30 sts)
Row 5: (K2. P1. K2) across row.
Row 6: (K2. Sl1. K2) across row.
Row 7: (K2. P1. K2) across row.
Row 8: (Kfb. K1. Sl1. K1. Kfb) across row. (42 sts)
Row 9: (K3. P1. K3) across row.
Row 10: (K3. Sl1. K3) across row.
Row 11: (K3. P1. K3) across row.
To make the star points: (For the 1st point) Ssk. K1. Sl1. K1. K2tog. Turn, leave the rest of the stitches on the needle. These 5 stitches are worked for the point.
*Row 13: K2. P1. K2.
Row 14: K2. Sl1. K2
Row 15: K2. P1. K2.
Row 16: Ssk. Sl1. K2tog. (3 sts.)
Row 17: K1. P1. K1.
Row 18: K1. Sl1. K1.
Row 19: K1. P1. K1.
Row 20: Ss3k. Break yarn and pull through loop.*
For the other points:
Next Point: 12th row: (Right side). Join yarn to remaining stitches of 11th row: Ssk.
K1. Sl1. K1. K2tog. Turn, leave the rest of the stitches on the needle.
Rep from *to * as written for the First Point.
Repeat "other point" steps until 6 points have been made.
How to finish the stars

This is what the piece looks like when you are finished knitting. Thread the end of the yarn you used to cast on onto a needle. Sew through the stitches in the middle of the star.

Pull to close the center of the star. Sew the seam and weave in ends.
