It wouldn’t be fall here on the blog without a Pumpkin Hat knitting pattern! I’ve make pumpkin hat pattern in baby sizes previous years (see here), but this is the first time I’ve done larger sizes.

This hat is easy and fast to knit. It features wide ribbing and the “stem” is made using double point needles. I crocheted the “vine” because it was the fastest way, but you could also knit it.

Yarn: Starlette in Burnt Orange, Patons Classic Wool in Emerald, Vanna’s Choice in Chocolate
Needles: Size US 9 circular 16 inch, Size 9 double pointed, crochet hook H
Gauge: 2 inches= 8 sts

Toddler Pumpkin Hat Free Knitting Pattern

Sizes: 1-3, 4-7 years
Cast on 64 (72) sts. Work in K4, P4 ribbing for 8 (8 1/2) inches.

Shape crown:
Row 1: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 1, Purl 4, repeat across row (56, 64 sts)
Row 2: Knit 3, Purl 1, Purl 2 together, Purl 1, repeat across row (48, 56 sts)
Row 3: Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Purl 3, repeat across row (40, 48 sts)
Row 4: Knit 2, Purl 1, Purl 2 together, repeat across row (32, 40 sts)
Row 5: Knit 2 together, Purl 2, repeat across row (24, 32 sts)
Row 6: Knit 1, Purl 2 together, repeat across row (16, 24 sts)

Knit 2 together until you are left with 10 sts. Switch to brown yarn and knit until pumpkin stem measures 1 1/2 inches. Break yarn, pull through remaining stitches and pull to tighten.
