Kids Nordic Rudolph Hat Knitting Pattern- a festive, Nordic hat adorned with everyone’s favorite red-nosed reindeer!
It wouldn’t feel like Christmas around here without including a holiday hat pattern! This hat features a ribbed brim and a Rudolph motif. If you’re new to reading knitting charts this one is a great introduction. The reindeer design is knit over 21 stitches and it’s repeated 4 times. The color switching is minimal and there are several rows that repeat.
Kids Nordic Rudolph Hat Knitting Pattern
Yarn: Lion Brand Basic Stitch in Ecru and Lion Brand Jeans in Topstitch (1 skein each)
Needles: Size US 6 circular, 16-inch and size US 8 circular, 16-inch, Size US 8 double point needles
Gauge: 10 sts = 2 inches
Size: 3-5 years old
With the smaller needles, cast on 84 sts. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1 ½ inches.
Switch to larger needles and knit 1 round.
Knit in the round using the chart below. You will make 4 reindeer.
Shape crown:
Switch to double point needles when needed
Row 1: *K12. K2tog. Rep from * around. (78 sts)
Row 2: *K12. K2tog. Rep from * around. (72 sts)
Row 3: *K10. K2tog. Rep from * around (66 sts)
Row 4: *K9. K2tog. Rep from * around (60 sts)
Row 5: *K8. K2tog. Rep from * around (54 sts)
Row 6: *K6 (7-8-9). K2tog. Rep from * (48 sts)
Row 7: *K5 (6-7-8). K2tog. Rep from * around (42 sts)
Row 8: *K4 (5-6-7). K2tog. Rep from * around (36 sts)
Row 9: *K3 (4-5-6). K2tog. Rep from * around. (30 sts)
Row 10: *K2 (3-4-5). K2tog. Rep from * around. (24 sts)
Row 11: *K1 (2-3-4). K2tog. Rep from *around. (18 sts)
Row 12: *K1 (2-3) K2tog. Rep from * around. (12 sts)
Row 13: Knit 2 tog across round.
Break yarn, pull through remaining stitches and pull to tighten. Weave in ends. Make and attach pom pom.
For Rudolph’s nose: I double stitched the nose using red yarn.
