I know, I know…knit hats in August! If you’re like me, you don’t put away the knitting needles just because it’s summer! Besides, August is the perfect time to get started on all you fall knitting projects. I must admit, knitting this hat has gotten me in the mood for crisp mornings and changing leaves!
This slouch hat is perfect for autumn days. The relaxed shape is both comfortable and casual. This Gumdrop yarn is medium weight and it comes in a bunch of fun colorways that are ideal for kids.
This Kids Slouch Hat Knitting Pattern is pretty basic. The only thing that might be confusing to newbie knitters is the stitch “TBL”. Don’t be intimidated- it’s really easy to make! TBL means “knitting through the back loop”. It creates a twisted knit stitch that makes for an interesting pattern. There are tons of YouTube video illustrating how the stitch is make if you need extra clarification =)

Yarn: Red Heart Gumdrop in Marmalade (1 skein)
Needles: Size 8 circular 16 inch
Sizes: Kids S/M, M/L
Cast on 72 (78) sts.
The hat is worked in the following pattern
Round 1: K1, TBL (“Through the Back Loop”), P1 across round
Round 2: K1, P1 across round
Work in pattern until the piece measures 9 1/2 (12 1/2) inches.
Decrease:
Round 1: Knit 2 sts together across round.
Round 2: Knit 2 sts together across round.
Break yarn and pull through remaining stitches. Pull to tighten.
