Pattern Note
This pattern is made using self-striping yarn. To create the distinct color changes shown in the finished granny square, I cut the yarn after completing each round. For the next round, I selected the next color section from the self-striping yarn and joined the yarn to begin crocheting again. Repeat this process after each round, choosing a new color from the yarn as you go. This technique gives you more control over the color placement while still enjoying the coordinating shades of self-striping yarn.

Tips for Making a Beautiful Crochet Granny Square Pillow
For the best results when making your crochet granny square pillow, try to keep your tension consistent as you work each section of the pattern. Even tension will help your crochet pieces maintain a uniform shape and make the finishing process easier. If your finished crochet piece looks slightly uneven, gently blocking it before assembling the pillow can help straighten the edges and create a more polished appearance.
Take your time when finishing and assembling your pillow, since neat seams can make a big difference in the final result. Weave in loose yarn ends securely and check the shape of your crochet work as you go. Once finished, your handmade granny square pillow will add cozy texture and classic crochet charm to a sofa, bed, accent chair, or favorite reading nook.

Is this Granny Square Pillow Crochet Pattern beginner-friendly?
Yes! If you’re comfortable with basic crochet stitches and working a traditional granny square, this crochet pillow pattern is a fun and approachable project. It’s also a great way to practice maintaining consistent tension and creating an even, polished finish.
Can I use leftover yarn to make this crochet pillow?
Absolutely. A granny square pillow is a great stash-busting crochet project because you can incorporate smaller amounts of leftover yarn in different colors. Just make sure the yarns you combine are similar in weight for the most consistent results.
What colors work best for a granny square crochet pillow?
You can customize the colors to coordinate with your home decor. Neutral shades create a simple, modern look, while brighter colors give the pillow a more traditional and playful feel. Warm earth tones are especially cozy for fall, while cream, beige, and soft pastels work beautifully year-round.
Should I block my granny square before assembling the pillow?
Blocking can help straighten the edges and create a neater finished appearance. It’s especially helpful if your crochet piece has slightly uneven edges or needs a little reshaping before assembly.
Can I make more than one coordinating crochet pillow?
Yes! Try making several granny square pillows using the same color palette but changing the placement of the colors. This creates a coordinated look without making every pillow exactly the same.
This Granny Square Pillow Crochet Pattern is a simple way to combine classic crochet with cozy, handmade home decor. With endless possibilities for customizing the colors, it’s easy to create a pillow that perfectly suits your personal style. Whether you use leftover yarn from your stash or choose a new color palette specifically for this project, the finished crochet granny square pillow will add beautiful texture, color, and handmade charm to your space.
