Plush Snowman Knitting Pattern

Plush Snowman Knitting Pattern

(As an Amazon associate, I earn from qualifying purchases)
Yarn: Lion Brand Basic Stitch in Ecru , Red Heart Super Saver in Spring Green and a small amount of #4 worsted weight orange yarn
Needles: Size US 8 double point knitting needles, Size US 8 single point needles
Also needed: yarn needle, poly fill, buttons for the eyes and mouth
Gauge: 8 sts = 2 inches
Skill level: intermediate
Size: approximately 14 inches tall

Pattern instructions:

For the body:
(body is worked from the bottom up)
With the ecru yarn, cast on 36 sts. Divide sts onto 3 needles (12 sts on each needle). Join in rnd. PM for beg of rnd (center of back). 
Round 1: Knit.
Round 2: *K2. M1. Rep from * around. (54 sts)
Round 3: Knit.
Knit in rounds until work from the beginning measures 4 inches.

For the arms:
Round 1: K13. M1. K1. M1. K26. M1. K1. M1. K13. (58 sts)
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: K14. M1. K1. M1. K28. M1. K1. M1. K14. (62 sts)
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: K15. M1. K1. M1. K28. M1. K1. M1. K14. (66 sts)
Round 6: Knit.
Round 7: K16. M1. K1. M1. K32. M1. K1. M1. K14. (70 sts)
Round 8: Knit.
Knit every round until the piece from the beginning measures 7 inches.

For the shoulders:
**Round 1: (K2tog. K5) 10 times. (60 sts)
Round 2 and alt rounds: Knit.
Round 3: (K2tog. K4) 10 times. (50 sts)
Round 5: (K2tog. K3) 10 times. (40 sts)
Round 7: (K2tog. K2) 10 times. (30 sts)
Round 9: (K2tog. K1) 10 times. (20 sts)**

Head:
Round 1: (K1. M1) 20 times. (40 sts)
Rounds 2 to 4: Knit.
Round 5: (K2. M1) 20 times. (60 sts) 
Rounds 6 to 8: Knit.
Round 9: (K6. M1) 10 times. (70 sts) 
Round 10: Knit.
Knit in rounds until work from the beginning of the neck measures 5 inches, Work from ** to ** as given for shoulders of Body. 20 sts rem. 
Next round: Knit.
Next round: (K2tog) 10 times. (10 sts)

Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread yarn through rem sts. Pull tightly. Fasten securely. Stuff the head and body with poly fill. Make a running stitch along the bottom of the snowman and pull to gather. Secure and weave in ends.

Stuff Head and Body. Sew bottom seam.

Hat:
With the straight needles and the green yarn, cast on 72 sts.
Work in K2, P2 ribbing until the piece measures 6 1/2 inches from the beginning, ending on a purl side row.
Next row: (RS). *K2tog. P2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 37 sts. 
Next row: K1, P1 across row.
Next row: (K2tog) across row. Break yarn, leaving long end. Thread yarn through rem sts. Pull tightly. Fasten securely. Sew back seam. Make and attach pom pom.

For the Scarf:
With the straight needles and the green yarn, cast on 10 sts.
Knit every row until the piece measures 13 inches. Bind off.
For the fringe: Cut strands of yarn that measure 4 inches long. Fold in half and knot into fringe across the ends of the scarf. Trim fringe evenly.

For the nose:
With the straight needles and the orange yarn, cast on 5 sts. K2tog and bind off.

Finishing:
Back stitch to create arms.

Wrap scarf around neck and secure in place. Stitch on hat. Add the button eyes and mouth and sew on the carrot nose.
