Easy Flat Knit Cable Hat- New to cable knitting? This flat knit hat is a great first pattern to try!
This flat knit cable hat features rows of thin cables. If you’re new to cable knitting- don’t be intimidated! They’re actually quite simple to work. For this pattern, you slip 2 stitches on the cable needled bring it to the back of your work. Then you knit 2 stitches and 2 from the cable needle.

Easy Flat Knit Cable Hat
Yarn: Lion Brand Heartland in King’s Canyon
Needles: Size US 8 single point knitting needles, cable needles
Gauge: 19 sts + 24 rows = 4 inches in pattern
Size: Women’s one size
Pattern Instructions:
Terms in this pattern- 2/2 RC (2 over 2 right cross): Slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then k2 from the cable needle.
Cast on 93 sts.
Rows 1 and 3 (wrong side): P1 *p4, k1, p1, k1; repeat from * to last st, p1.
Row 2: K1, * k1, p1, k1, k4; repeat from * to last st, k1.
Row 4: K1, *k1, p1, k1, 2/2 RC; repeat from * to last st, k1.
Repeat Rows 1-4 until the piece measures 7 inches ending after row 4.
Repeat rows 1-3 one time.
Shape the crown:
Row 1 (Decrease) (RS): K1, *p3tog, 2/2 RC; rep from * across to last st, k1 (67 sts)
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: K1, *p1, k4; repeat from * across to last st, k1.
Row 5 (Decrease): K1, * p1, sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k2, k2tog from cable needle, repeat from * to last st, k1 (54 sts)
Row 7 (Decrease): K1, *p1, ssk, k1; repeat from * to last st, k1 (41 sts)
Row 9 (Decrease): K1, *p1, k2tog; repeat from * to last st, k1 (28 sts)
Row 11 (Decrease): K1, *k2tog; repeat from * to last st, k1 (15 sts)
Row 13 (Decrease): K1, *k2tog; repeat from * across (8 sts)
Row 14: Purl across.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Sew the side seam. Make and attach Pom Pom. Weave in ends.
